So at full price, I don’t think I recommend it for the time I spent, but not too long ago it hit its lowest price at $6, and I think that is a relatively fair price for the experience I got. Even though I got screwed on the last achievement and could not get the spawn I needed for way too long, I spent just under 4 hours in the game. It knows when to be colorful and cheery and when to be dark and dreary, the sprites are all well thought out, character portraits always felt fitting to the sprites, and the map design is simple, and that works in the game’s favor. There are some IRL photos in a couple of spots that feel out of place, but that is my only complaint. Graphically I am a sucker for pixel art and this game looks great. And the ending theme is fire in my opinion. The music was well composed and fitting for sure, and what little sounds they had felt appropriate and had the weight I would expect it to have. Sound-wise the game is simple in its music and sound design, but I enjoyed what they had. There is not a lot of it, but the characters are great and the interactions are funny, the world-building is well-ingrained, and the general premise (avoiding paying taxes) is hilarious to me. Speaking of I think that the humor this game has and the world that is built is truly the best this game has to offer. But in the end, what really grabbed my attention was the story. Overall the gameplay is kind of meh in my opinion which is not an issue (until the post-game content). Beyond that, the game is just fetch quests and puzzles, and they are not terrible. Most of the time you just have to watch attacks that you have to learn then just poke them with your sword or shovel. Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is a good game.
